Purposes and History The purposes of the establishment of the Tainan University Of Technology are to glorify our traditional Chinese morality, to raise the quality of women's education, to promote employment skills, and to improve family life and build a healthy society eventually. Establishment (a) In August 1964, a group of dedicated educators formed a founding committee. These people were Tsung Tang, Chien Weng, Liang-Tien Chang, Han-Jen Chi, Ying-Yeh Liu, Shye Yu, Yao Huang, Shih-En Huang, Ching-Wen Tsai, Pao-Yuan Chao, Ruei-Che Lin, Hsun-Hao Hsu, Yuan-Tsai Weng, etc. On August 15th, the Board held the first meeting and elected Tsung- Tang as the Chairman. In October, the Board of directors was approved by the Ministry of Education. (b) In January. 1965, based on the approval of the Ministry of Education , the school was named Private Tainan Junior College of Home Economics. (a) The names of school ● On June 1st 1997, the school was upgraded to be the Private Tainan Woman's College of Arts & Technology with five-year Junior College. ● On March 5th 1998, the college changed its name to Tainan Woman's College of Arts & Technology. ● On August 1st 2006, the college changed its name to Tainan University of Technology. (b) Programs ● In January 1965, five-year-junior-college day program was set up. ● In June 1965, three-year-junior-college evening program was set up, with four school years required. ● In September 1966, three-year-junior-college evening program was changed to two- year program, with three school years required. ● In June 1988, two-year-junior-college day program was set up. ● In June 1997, two-year-college day and evening programs were set up. ● In December 1998, four-year-college day and evening program were set up. In February 1999, two-year-college on-job evening program started. ● In October 1999, seven-year-coherent-college day program started. ● In May 2000, two-year-junior-college day program stopped. ● In July 2001, two-year-junior-college evening program stopped. ● In June 2002, Graduate Institute day programs were set up. ● In July 2003, Graduate Institute on-job programs were set up. ● In October 2004, four-year-college on-job evening program started. ● In October 2005, Department of Styling and Cosmetology with two-year junior college and two year on-job evening programs were set up. (c) Departments ● In January 1965, the five-year-junior-college program started, consisting of three departments: Home Economics, Fashion Design and Accounting & Statistics. ● In February 1965, the college recruited 300 students for six classes. ● In June 1965, Department of Family Crafts was set up. ● In June 1970, Department of Music started. ● In November 1970, Department of Family Crafts was renamed as Department of Arts & Crafts. ● In June 1988, Department of Arts & Crafts with two-year-junior-college program and Department of Interior Design with five-year-junior-college program started. ● In June 1989, Department of Home Economics with two-year-junior-college program was set up. ● In June 1990, Fashion Design and Accounting & Statistics with two-year- junior-college programs started. ● In June 1991, Dance Division from Department of Music became independent as Department of Dance with two-year and five-year- junior-college program. ● In February 1994, Department of Cosmetology with two-year-junior-college program started. ● In May 1995, the departments of International Trade and Finance with both five-year and two-year-junior-college programs were set up. ● In May 1996, Department of Visual Communication Design was founded with both two-year and five-year-junior-college programs. ● In May 1997, Department of Cosmetology was renamed as Department of Styling & Cosmetology. ● In June 1997, three departments were approved with two-year-college program: Home Economics, Accounting, and Music. ● In March 1998, another three departments were approved with two-year- college program: Fashion Design and Management, Interior Design, and Fine Arts. ● In December 1998, the college set up four-year programs, comprising the departments of Home Economics, Fashion Design, Early Childhood Educare, Accounting, Applied Foreign Languages, Interior Design, Applied Visual Art, and Product Design. In addition, Department of Applied Foreign Languages was approved with five-year-junior-college program. ● In February 1999, the college started two-year on-job evening program in the departments of Home Economics, Accounting, Fashion Design, Music, Interior Design, and Fine Arts. ● In October 1999, Styling & Cosmetology and Finance were approved with two-year and four-year programs. Styling & Cosmetology, Finance, Visual Communication Design and Product Design were approved with two-year program. The seven-year-coherent-college program was founded in departments of Fine Arts and Dance. ● In August 2001, Department of Applied Visual Art changed its name to Department of Visual Communication Design. The departments of International Business Management, Fine Arts, and Dance joined the four-year program. Department of Fashion Design Management changed its name to Department of Fashion Design. The departments of International Business Management and Dance were added to two-year program. The Department of Music was added to the seven year coherent college program. Department of Styling & Cosmetology joined two-year on-job evening program. ● In December 2001, Department of Information Management joined the four-year and two-year-college program. ● In October 2002, Department of Early Childhood Educare joined the two-year program and Department of Applied Foreign Languages and Department of International Business Management were approved with four-year evening program. Department of Finance with two-year on-job evening program stopped. Department of Interior Design with two-year on-job evening program stopped. ● In March 2003, Department of Home Economics changed its name to Department of Living Science. ● In September 2003, Department of Finance with five-year program stopped. ● In October 2004, Department of Fine Arts with two-year day program stopped. Department of Fine Arts with four-year on-job evening program started. Department of Product Design with two-year evening program stopped. Department of Product Design with two-year on-job evening program started. Department of Dance with two-year program stopped. Department of Dance with four-year program changed its name to Department of Recreation and Dance. Department of Fashion in college program changed its name to Department of Fashion Design and Management. Department of Accountings in college program changed its name to Department of Accounting and Information. ● In October 2005, Department of Styling and Cosmetology with two-year junior college and two-year on-job evening programs were set up. Department of Finance with five-year program was set up. Department of Product Design with five-year program was set up. (d) Graduate Institutes ● In June 2002, Graduate Institute of Music was set up. ● In October 2002, Graduate Institute of Applied Science of Living and Graduate Institute of Accounting & Information System were set up. ● In July 2003, Graduate Institute of Applied Science of Living with on-job program was set up. ● In October 2004, Graduate Institute of Accounting & Information System changed its name to Graduate Institute of Business and Management. ● In August 2005, Graduate Institute of Art was set up.
