The European director of the World Beauty Organisation, Mr. Detlef Tursies, made the announcement during a press conference on Monday 3rd September that Le Meridien Barbarons Hotel will host the event on the 13th October this year. Other people present at the announcement were representatives of Le Meridien & Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Maurice Loustau-Lalanne chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourist Board (STB); Maldivian entrepreneur Ahmed Didi of Universal Enterprise and the rose amongst the thorns, so to speak, lovely Ms Suzy Pierre who is acting as the country manager handling the logistics side of the international beauty pageant in Seychelles. In total fifty contestants are expected to participate spending a week here doing photo shoots and filming in their respective national costumes. Seychelles will be represented by our very own Miss Seychelles 2007, Solana Domingue. The contestants will be accommodated at Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove and Barbarons hotel during their stay in Seychelles. Mr. Detlef Tursies stated that, “The natural beauty and environment of the Seychelles has convince us to host this international pageant here as this event will be broadcast worldwide and will generate more interest in Seychelles.” For his part Mr. Loustau-Lalanne said, “From tourism prospective such an international event to our shores with worldwide telecast, this is bound to add value to our tourism goals and objectives.” Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove is also organising a raffle as part of the activities to go with the Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant. The winners will be given stays in Le Meridien’s hotels all over the World as their prizes. The last Seychellois participant in the Miss Intercontinental held in the Bahamas last year was Miss Seychelles Islands 2006, Wendy Boniface. Saturday night, 13th October 2007 - Live from the sold out ICC in Mahe Seychelles, 23 years old Miss Lebanon , Nancy Aflouny was crowned the new Miss Intercontinental 2007. In a spectacular show with legendary Singer Keith Tynes (Ex Platters) the beautiful TV host from Lebanon won the crown after a 2 hour show which was broadcasted by SBC. The two runners-up were Miss Korea , Han na Yoo and Miss Margarita Island, Emily Fernandez. For Korea its was the very first time to enter the Top 3 within an international beauty pageant of WBO. Brazil, represented by the stunning Marcela Duarte and 22 year old Miss Greece Antonia Kallimoukou placed 3rd and 4th runner up. An international panel of judges including Ligia Petit, Miss Intercontinental 2001 who is today a famous actress in Venezuela did not have an easy job at this night. The new Miss Intercontinental 2007 was crowned by last years winner Katarina Manova who won the crown 2006 in Nassau - the Bahamas. The event was sponsored by the Le Meridien Starwood Hotel Group, Universal and Seychelles Tourism Board. All delegates had a tremendous stay at one of the most luxuriest hotels in the Seychelles, the Le Meridien Fishermans Cove and Barbarons. During their 10 day stay the went to some exiting trips e.g. to Shilouette Island and its exclusive Hotel La Briz. The Top 5 won as a special prize an 8 Day stay at "La Briz" on Shilouette island and Le Meridien Fishermans Cove with full board and value of over 7000 Euro.
